The Power of Teamwork
Archimedes once said: “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.” The power to move great objects—indeed the power to perform wondrous acts of all kinds—depends on leverage: that miracle of nature that allows us to take on bigger jobs than we could ever hope to tackle on our own. Nowadays, the most important source of leverage in the world is not a capstan, a pulley or a marlin spike. It is the power of teamwork; the power of individuals working together to lighten a load or fulfill a mission. Glenair is blessed with just this kind of leverage. For almost fifty years our company has been initiating positive growth and change in our industry through the miracle of teamwork. And with this issue of QwikConnect we are proud to introduce the latest fruits of our combined labors: The Glenair CostSaver Composite EMI/RFI Junction Box. We've named our composite-plastic junction boxes "CostSavers" because that's exactly what they do when compared to metal systems which must be replaced periodically due to corrosion. Our CostSaver boxes are definitely the right solution for organizations that are focused on system life-cycles and long-term costs of ownership. Like so many other Glenair projects, the development of our line of EMI/RFI and environmental junction boxes didn't just take place over night. For many of the Glenair staff who participated in bringing the boxes to market—from the designers and draftsmen to the tool makers, machinists, testers, production control and quality managers—this particular project has been an unexpectedly long journey, with quite a few twists and turns. In fact, it has consumed the attention and energy of so many of us for so long, that it has become something of a company-wide obsession to at long last bring the boxes—and all the accessories and fittings that go with them—to market. As Pericles once explained to the Anthenians, "Seamanship is an art like any other; it is not something which can be picked up in one's spare time; indeed, it leaves no leisure for anything else." He could just as easily been talking about composite boxes; as they too leave little room for leisure. And so happily, we are at last able to offer a comprehensive junction box solution; complete with all the right feed-through fittings, connectors, grounding technologies, mounting hardware, cables, plating options, colors—you name it. The boxes have been tested at sea by both the UK Ministry of Defense and the US Navy, and have returned to port with flying colors. More importantly, we are now filling orders. Three cheers for the power of teamwork.
