This month the International Institute of Connectors and Interconnect
Technology (IICIT) recognized Glenair's own Bert Bergsrud for his lifetime
of service and achievement in the interconnect industry. In presenting
Bert with the Institute's annual Lifetime Achievement Award, the organization
expressed its thanks, on behalf of both its membership and countless others,
who have directly benefitted from Bert's many years of dedicated service.
It gives me great pleasure to join the IICIT in recognizing Bert for his four decades of professional service to the business of making connectors and accessories. Bert made his initial entry into the industry when he joined Lockheed-Burbank in 1959. He moved to Sunbank one year later and distinguished himself there for over 20 years. He joined Electro-Adapter in 1981 and, as most of you know, joined the Glenair team as Executive Vice President in 1986. Now clearly, the dates and years of service don't tell the whole story of Bert's contribution to the industry, or of his many other interests and accomplishments in life. So with Bert's permission, we'd like to share a few choice anecdotes from Bert's real Lifetime of Achievement. Notably, Bert has always been an avid and accomplished baseball player. During his career in the minor leagues he was able to play with some of the true heroes of the game, including Hank Aaron, who was Bert's minor league roommate. When it comes to baseball, Bert has always been in a league of his own. All those years of field and clubhouse chatter put Bert in fine voice for his other love in life, that of professional crooner. During his college days at UCLA, Bert toured throughout the United States with a number of popular singing groups. He even has several recordings to his name. But despite his love for baseball and singing, Bert soon found his true calling in life in the venerable interconnect industry. Bert's mastery of the connector accessory has led many of us at Glenair to refer to Bert as the Zen Master of Backshells.Perhaps no one else in the industry deserves the title as much as Bert. He has played a visionary role in the design, development and marketing of the modern connector accessory. In a career which has already spanned five decades, Bert has been a tireless advocate for quality, professionalism and customer service. Please join me in saluting Bert's achievements. We are proud to call him our friend and colleague.
