Coming to a CD-ROM Near You: The Glenair Micro-D Tool Kit

The Fastest Way on Earth to Build a Micro-D Part Number or Check Price and Delivery

The Glenair Micro-D Tool Kit is a Microsoft Excel® application which allows the user to find price and delivery for any Glenair Micro-D part number, build Micro-D part numbers from scratch, and cross-reference other manufacturer part numbers -- all through a user-friendly point and click CR-ROM interface. Designed for use on all personal computers running Microsoft Windows 95® or greater, MicrosoftCD-ROM® and Adobe Acrobat® Reader, the Glenair Micro-D Tool Kit is available on request from Glenair's sales department in Glendale. Installation of the Glenair Micro-D Tool Kit is simplified by keeping all the necessary program files right on the disc. Users simply double-click on the setup.exe file and follow the prompts. After installation is complete, launch the disc by double-clicking on the Glenair Micro-D Tool Kit icon.

Micro-D Toolkit CD The Glenair Micro-D Tool Kit has three main sections. Section one allows the user to get price and delivery information on both Glenair standard part numbers as well as military standard part numbers. Price breaks, starting at 1 to 9 pieces and continuing up to 1000 plus pieces are provided using an easy to read quote screen. Delivery information is also presented for both in-stock items as well as accelerated lead-time items.

Section two of the disc allows users to build Glenair and military standard part numbers using a point and click interface. The military standard part number builder offers only those options covered under the MIL-DTL-83513 specification. A wider range of options are available when building a Glenair commercial part number.

A nested series of screens walks the user through each decision point, beginning with the product series: solder cups, pigtails, printed circuit board and so on. Subsequent screens prompt the user to select for plating, insulator material, pin count and type, wire length and color, wire type and gauge and finally mounting hardware. Wire selection guides and help screens are available whenever additional input of information is required, for example to assist the user in choosing the appropriate plating or finish options. Product data sheets and catalog pages for the finished part number may be viewed and printed directly from the disc. And the program of course allows the user to request price and delivery information for the finished part number as well. The Micro-D Manufacturer Cross Reference allows users to enter in any Micro-D part number from Airborn, Cinch, Cristek, ITT Cannon, Microdot or Ultimate in order to quickly and easily cross the number to Glenair. Price and delivery information is just a mouse click away.

The Glenair Micro-D Tool Kit will be available mid-March 2000 in limited quantities from Glenair Sales. Reserve your copy today by contacting your Glenair Representative or the Glenair factory sales office.

The MIL-DTL-83513 specification defines the minimum acceptable performance levels for miniaturized rectangular interconnects used in military aerospace and other high performance applications. Performance criteria are detailed in Table I. Qualified manufacturers, such as Glenair, are of course allowed to exceed the minimum requirements through the application of superior materials and processing techniques. And as was noted earlier, differences in materials selection and manufacturing processes can affect peak performance levels -- particularly operating temperature range, contact retention and crimp strength. But in general, the MIL-DTL-83513 qualification is the customer's assurance that each approved connector has been manufactured to withstand rigorous defense department standards.
