Glenair Braiding Services

Glenair's in-house braiding production capacity is truly impressive. More than 50 braiders, ranging from 16 to 96 carriers, provide the capability to produce large quantities of precise metal and nonmetallic braid and expandable sleeving in tubular, tapered, and flat configurations - in virtually any material and length necessary to suit customer requirements.

Braiding materials used at Glenair include bare copper, tin-plated copper-covered steel, copper plated with tin, nickel or silver, bronze, stainless steel, copper-covered steel, aluminum, nylon, Dacron®, Nomex®, Kevlar®, and monofilament PEEK, Teflon®, Ryton®, Halar®, and polyester. Glenair's newest addition to our braid products is the extremely light-weight Aracon® braid for EMI/RFI shielding applications. For special applications, other materials may be selected.

Custom Braiding

Metal Braid
Glenair's metal braid is offered in tubular and flat configurations in a variety of sizes ranging from 1/32 inch (0.8 mm) to 2 1/2 inches (63.5 mm). Glenair's tubular metal braid is manufactured to afford excellent flexibility for a variety of EMI shielding applications. Its flexibility allows the braid to easily be slipped over wire bundles, cables, convoluted tubing, or other similar

Assembled Conduit Assemblies

constructions. Glenair's standard tubular braid is constructed of 34 or 36 AWG copper stranding and is available in bare copper, or plated with tin, nickel, or silver.

Glenair's flat metal braid is produced from tin-plated copper and rolled flat. This highly conductive flat braid construction provides excellent flexibility and is recommended for bonding and grounding applications. Typical applications include bonding strips in vehicles and aircraft to assist in eliminating ignition interference.

Expandable Sleeving
Glenair's expandable sleeving provides a durable lightweight, and economical protective enclosure for wire bundles, cables, hoses, etc. The elastic sleeving accommodates irregular shapes and sizes to create a smooth profile. This feature reduces snagging problems which are often encountered in installations of lacing-tape tied wire bundles.

The sleeving stays flexible over a wide range of temperatures, adjusting to twisting and flexing without wrinkles, bends or bulges. For applications ranging from -65°F (-54°C) to +250°F (+121°C), polyethylene terephthalate is available in either black or white. Ethylenechlorotrifluoroethylene (E-CTFE) is offered in black or white, black with white tracer or white with black tracer for use in term-termperatures from -100°F (-73°C) to +302°F (+150°C).
