In Memorium An entrepreneur, Mr. Chadbourne founded Air Borne Controls, Inc. (ABC) in 1959. Specializing in custom designed cables and wiring systems, ABC manufactured the “Golden Umbilical” for the first space walk. The cable is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. ABC was acquired by Glenair, Inc. in 1969, and in 1974 the company became an operating division of Glenair. Mr. Chadbourne served as President of ABC and Vice-Chairman of Glenair’s Board of Directors. Known as “Chad” to those who worked with him, Mr. Chadbourne possessed a sharp wit and warm personality. He was, as one of his sons put it, “on a first-name basis with the world.” |
