Better Ferrule Design Translates to Better Optical Performance
Glenair's unique alignment techniques maximize optical performance and provide reliable, repeatable interconnection of optical fibers. Ferrule design, critical to the performance of the termini, has traditionally relied on a machined stainless steel ferrule incorporating a precision micro drilled hole. Glenair' unique precision ceramic ferrules, with concentricity and diametric tolerances controlled within a micron (.00004 of an inch) meet the needs of high bandwidth and low allowable insertion loss applications. In fact, Glenair's ferrules are approximately 10 times more accurate than alternative designs, and have reduced insertion loss values from 1.5dB to less than .5dB (typical loss for Glenair termini is .3 dB).

Two Versions: MIL-PRF-29504 QPL'd Termini and Our New Front Release Contact
Glenair's MIL-PRF-29504/4 and /5 Qualified Fiber Optic Termini are specifically designed for use in the D38999 Series III connector, and provide optimal performance when compared to other fiber optic termini. Glenair's new commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) front-realease fiber optic termini meets the same military standards and adds new features of value to both commercial and military applications—including Front Release installation and maintenance. This termini utilizes a unique retention clip located on the contact—not in the connector—which enables our engineers to quickly develop special fiber optic connectors without tooling new inserts. The termini also features an O-ring on the contact which eliminates the need for the connector interfacial seal and grommet seal, again making this termini ideal for use on special-purpose (non-Mil Spec) connectors. Both contact types are available for immediate shipment.
