General Information and Support Data

Series 72 - Flexible Annular Convoluted Tubing And User-Installable Fittings
Glenair offers Series 72 Annular Convoluted Tubing unshielded, or with a variety of braids to meet various electromagnetic shielding requirements. Type A is provided unshielded, Types B through F define standard combinations of braided materials. Other combinations can be provided upon request.
Glenair Series 72 Convoluted Tubing can be successfully utilized in high nuclear radiation applications. The Kynar®tubing provides excellent resistance to high levels of gamma radiation. Upon exposure to 1,000 megarads (Gamma radiation, Co60), at 50°C (122°F), and high vacuum (10-6 Torr), the original tensile strength is essentially retained. The radiation stability of Kynar®, combined with its chemical resistance, has resulted in successful use in plutonium reclamation plants.

Series 74 - Flexible Helical Convoluted Tubing And User-Installable Fittings
A lighter-weight more-flexible system, Glenair offers Series 74 Helical Convoluted Tubing unshielded or with a variety of braids to meet various electromagnetic shielding requirements. Type A is provided unshielded; Type B unshielded, with a protective outer braided black Dacron®covering; Types C through F define standard combinations of braided metal EMI shielding; Type G unshielded, with an outer elastomeric jacket. Other combinations can be provided upon request.
Glenair Series 74 Helical Convoluted Tubing (fluorocarbon/teflon) are manufactured in conformance to MIL-T-81914, providing the user with standard and thin wall thickness, and a choice of standard or close convolutions. For low-smoke zero-halogen applications that require a high strength and superior crush resistance, Glenair can supply PEEK tubing (semicrystalline thermoplastic). The PEEK material will be manufactured to Glenair tubing standards.

Series 75 - Flexible Metal-Core Conduit And User-Installable Fittings
Glenair Series 75 Metal-Core Conduit is manufactured of helically-wound strip material, soldered or brazed at each joint to assure a continuous hermetic seal through-out the length of the conduit. Series 75 conduit is offered with a variety of core and braid materials to meet various electromagnetic shielding and environmental requirements. Types A through D define standard combinations of braided materials with a brass inner core. Type H defines a stainless steel inner core with a stainless steel braid. Type J defines a nickel/iron inner core with a stainless steel braid. Other combinations can be provided upon request. See pages 112, 113 and 115 for test data on Series 75 conduit shielding effectiveness and transfer impedence characteristics.
Series 75 Metal-Core Conduit is supplied either unjacketed or with a neoprene (polychloroprene) jacket, which provides mechanical protection and environmental sealing. Other jacketing materials can be provided upon request, including Hypalon®, Viton®, and EPDM. Contact Glenair for further information. Series 75 Flexible Metal-Core Conduit is available in a range of standard diameters from 1/4" (6.35mm) to 3" (76.2mm).

Pre-Terminated Assemblies
Glenair provides Series 72 & 74 convoluted tubing and Series 75 flexible metal-core conduit in complete pre-terminated assemblies for connector-to-connector and connector-toadapter or transition applications. All braided shields together with the conduit are securely and permanently attached to the fittings with considerably less than one milliohm dc resistance across the termination. Consult your local Glenair representative or the Glenair factory for special applications.

Adapters And Transitions
When optimum shielding effectiveness and transfer impedance is a requirement, we recommend Glenair pre-assembled adapters and transitions. Common adapters and transitions are shown in this section. For configurations not shown, consult the factory.

Braid, Braiding, And Custom Cables
Glenair's in-house braiding production capacity is truly impressive. More than 50 braiders, ranging from 16 to 96 carriers, provide the capability to produce large quantities of precise metal and non-metallic braid and expandable sleeving in tubular, tapered, and flat configurations — in virtually any material and length to suit customer requirements.
Braiding materials used at Glenair include bare copper, tinplated copper-covered steel, copper plated with tin, nickel or silver; bronze, stainless steel, copper-covered steel, aluminum, nylon, Dacron®, Nomex®, Kevlar® and monofilament Peek, Teflon®, Ryton®, Halar®, and polyester. Glenair's newest addition to our braid products is the extremely light weight AmberStrand® braid for EMI/RFI shielding applications. For special applications, other materials may be selected.
