Close-Tolerance MIL-DTL-38999 Style Fiber Optic Connectors Provide Precise Optical Alignment

Glenair's close-tolerance MIL-DTL-38999 Series III Style Fiber Optic Connector is built to ensure precise optical alignment of optical fibers. Connector polarization keys and keyways are manufactured to tighter tolerances than required by the MIL-DTL-38999 specification to reduce radial misalignment and insertion loss.

Positive Stop Bottoming
Connector shells have a positive stop or bottoming surface to ensure reliable shell-to-shell bottoming. This feature ensures the linear dimensional relationship of the termini are the same after each connector mating. The connector effectively seats at a predetermined location each and every time. This location, or datum surface, provides a reference location back to the terminus retention clip. The pin and socket location is dimensioned from this stable bottom to acheive a repeatable and reliable connection.

Fully Compliant with MIL-DTL-38999 Series III Mating Specifications
Glenair's connector coupling thread, backshell attachment configuration and mounting footprint comply with the MIL-DTL-38999 specification. This facilitates easy retrofitting of these advanced fiber optic connectors in existing D38999 applications without changing equipment or panels.

Molded, Composite Thermoplastic Construction
Conductive surface plating on the connector's composite shell insures EMI/RFI penetration into the electronics equipment area is effectively cut off. Precision molded shells and insulators provide closely controlled dimensions with little variability from one part to the next. Composite materials are lighter than metal shell connectors and are corrosion-free.
