"E" Nuts fulfill basic backshell requirements for OEM systems which require a connector rear-end accessory Designed to fill connector rear-end threads and compress connector sealing grommets in Inside-the-Box applications This section describes the small family of backshells without strain relief for use with circular connectors. (These are most commonly referred to as "E" Nuts.) "E" Nuts are typically used inside box applications where there is no EMI/RFI, environmental or strain-relief requirement. But because some OEMs require that all connectors be equipped with a backshell, the simple "E" nut has broad application in the interconnect industry. More importanty, by filling the threads on the back of the connector, the "E" nuts serves to compress the connector sealing grommet. This insures proper performance for those connector designs which require pressure on the grommet to stabilize and align connector contacts.
